Lyortam 1gm Injection contains Ertapenem 1gm, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. It is indicated for the treatment of complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated skin and skin structure infections, community-acquired pneumonia, acute pelvic infections, and complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis.

Ertapenem works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. Administered via intramuscular or intravenous injection, Lyortam 1gm Injection exhibits a prolonged half-life, allowing for once-daily dosing, which enhances patient compliance. It is particularly useful in managing infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms. Dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal impairment.
Common adverse effects include injection site reactions, gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, and rash. Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, may occur in patients with a history of beta-lactam allergy. Caution is advised when used concomitantly with valproic acid due to potential reduction in valproic acid levels. Lyortam 1gm Injection should be used under strict medical supervision with appropriate microbiological monitoring to ensure efficacy and minimize resistance development.
It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to carbapenems or beta-lactam antibiotics.
