Imefab Injection is a sterile, injectable formulation containing Imipenem 500 mg and Cilastatin 500 mg, designed for the treatment of serious bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Imipenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, exhibits potent bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effective against a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic pathogens. Cilastatin is a renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor that prevents the enzymatic degradation of Imipenem in the kidneys, thereby enhancing its therapeutic efficacy and prolonging its half-life. Imefab Injection is indicated for complicated intra-abdominal infections, complicated urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and lower respiratory tract infections, including hospital-acquired pneumonia. The combination is administered intravenously, typically every 6 to 8 hours, with dosage adjustments based on renal function and severity of infection. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics. Adverse effects may include nausea, vomiting, rash, and, rarely, seizures, particularly in patients with predisposing factors. Imefab Injection should be used under strict medical supervision, with appropriate microbiological monitoring to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes and minimize the development of resistance.
