Imipenem, a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic, exerts bactericidal activity by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, effective against a wide range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic pathogens.

Cilastatin is a specific inhibitor of renal dehydropeptidase I, which prevents the degradation of Imipenem in the kidneys, thereby enhancing its therapeutic efficacy and reducing nephrotoxicity. Lupinem 500mg Injection is primarily utilized in the management of complicated urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and lower respiratory tract infections.
The dosage and duration of therapy should be tailored based on the severity of infection, renal function, and patient response. Administration is via intravenous infusion, typically over 20 to 30 minutes. Caution is advised in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics, and monitoring for potential adverse effects such as seizures, gastrointestinal disturbances, and hypersensitivity reactions is recommended.
