Imipol 500mg/500mg Powder for Injection contains a combination of Imipenem 500mg and Cilastatin 500mg, formulated for intravenous administration. Imipenem is a broad-spectrum carbapenem antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Cilastatin is a specific renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor that prevents the degradation of imipenem in the kidneys, thereby enhancing its therapeutic efficacy and prolonging its half-life.

This combination is indicated for the treatment of serious bacterial infections including complicated intra-abdominal infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, respiratory tract infections, and septicemia caused by susceptible organisms. Imipol is particularly useful in infections caused by multidrug-resistant pathogens where other antibiotics may be ineffective.
The powder must be reconstituted with a suitable diluent prior to intravenous infusion, and dosing should be adjusted according to the severity of infection and renal function. Adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, hypersensitivity reactions, and potential central nervous system effects such as seizures, especially in patients with impaired renal function.
