Albendazole inhibits tubulin polymerization in helminths, disrupting their metabolism and leading to their death.
Ivermectin binds to glutamate-gated chloride channels in parasites, causing paralysis and preventing reproduction.
Medical applications
ZTL Plus Tablet contains a combination of Ivermectin (6mg) and Albendazole (400mg), both of which are broad-spectrum antiparasitic agents used in the treatment of various parasitic infections. Ivermectin acts by binding selectively to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in the nerve and muscle cells of parasites, leading to paralysis and death of the parasite. Albendazole, a benzimidazole derivative, inhibits microtubule synthesis by binding to β-tubulin in parasitic worms, thereby impairing glucose uptake and depleting energy stores, resulting in parasite death.
This combination is particularly effective against a wide range of helminthic infections including strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis, ascariasis, trichuriasis, hookworm infections, and neurocysticercosis. ZTL Plus Tablet is indicated for use in both single-dose and multiple-dose regimens depending on the type and severity of infection. It is important to use this medication under medical supervision, as dosage adjustments may be necessary in patients with hepatic impairment or other comorbidities.
Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances, dizziness, and mild allergic reactions. Patients should be advised to complete the full course of therapy to ensure eradication of the parasites and prevent resistance development.
