Ozenoxacin (1% w/w)
Active composition
Ozenoxacin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis, leading to cell death.
Medical applications
Xepinoxin 1% Cream contains ozenoxacin 1% w/w, a topical non-fluorinated quinolone antibiotic indicated for the treatment of impetigo and other superficial bacterial skin infections caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Ozenoxacin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, thereby leading to bacterial cell death. Xepinoxin 1% Cream is applied topically to the affected area twice daily for a duration typically ranging from 5 to 7 days, depending on clinical response. The formulation is designed for cutaneous use and should be applied to clean, dry skin, avoiding contact with eyes and mucous membranes. It is generally well tolerated, with the most common adverse reactions being mild local irritation, pruritus, or erythema at the application site. Xepinoxin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ozenoxacin or any components of the cream. Caution is advised in patients with extensive skin lesions or compromised skin barrier. Due to minimal systemic absorption, systemic side effects are rare. This medication should be used as directed by a healthcare professional to reduce the risk of antibiotic resistance and ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes.
