Medical applications
Heteronox Cream contains Ozenoxacin 1% w/w, a topical non-fluorinated quinolone antibiotic indicated for the treatment of superficial bacterial skin infections, including impetigo caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes. Ozenoxacin exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair, thereby preventing bacterial proliferation.
The cream formulation allows for targeted delivery to the affected skin areas, minimizing systemic absorption and reducing the risk of systemic side effects. Heteronox Cream is typically applied twice daily to the affected area after cleansing, for a duration determined by the severity of the infection and clinical response, usually not exceeding 10 days. It is well tolerated, with adverse effects being rare and generally limited to mild local reactions such as erythema, burning, or itching at the application site.
Heteronox Cream should be used with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to quinolones or any component of the formulation. It is contraindicated in deep or systemic infections requiring systemic antibiotic therapy. Proper hygiene and adherence to prescribed treatment duration are essential to prevent resistance development and ensure therapeutic efficacy.
