Ivermectin acts by binding selectively to glutamate-gated chloride ion channels in invertebrate nerve and muscle cells, leading to paralysis and death of the parasite. Albendazole, a benzimidazole derivative, inhibits microtubule synthesis by binding to β-tubulin, impairing glucose uptake and depleting energy stores in susceptible helminths. This synergistic combination is effective against various intestinal and tissue nematodes, including strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis, ascariasis, trichuriasis, hookworm infections, and neurocysticercosis.
