Meflotas is prescribed for both prophylaxis in travelers to malaria-endemic regions and for the treatment of acute uncomplicated malaria. The recommended dosage varies depending on the indication and patient weight; for prophylaxis, it is typically administered once weekly starting one to two weeks before exposure and continued for four weeks after leaving the endemic area. For treatment, a higher dose is given as a single or divided dose.
Mefloquine should be used with caution in patients with a history of neuropsychiatric disorders, cardiac conduction abnormalities, or hypersensitivity to the drug.
