Lox 5% Ointment contains Lidocaine 5% w/w, a local anesthetic agent used for topical application to provide temporary relief from pain and itching associated with minor burns, insect bites, cuts, abrasions, and other superficial skin irritations. Lidocaine acts by stabilizing neuronal membranes and inhibiting the ionic fluxes required for the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses, thereby producing local anesthesia. The ointment formulation allows for effective penetration through the skin, ensuring rapid onset of action and prolonged analgesic effect. Lox 5% Ointment is indicated for use in adults and children over the age of two years and should be applied sparingly to the affected area no more than three to four times daily. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine or other amide-type local anesthetics. Caution is advised when applying to large areas or broken skin due to the risk of systemic absorption and potential toxicity. Adverse effects are generally mild and may include localized redness, swelling, or irritation. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be under medical supervision. Lox 5% Ointment should be stored at room temperature, away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
