Kaypen 250 Tablet contains Penicillin V 250mg, a beta-lactam antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive bacteria. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections caused by susceptible strains, including streptococcal pharyngitis, tonsillitis, skin and soft tissue infections, and certain respiratory tract infections. Penicillin V acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death.

The oral formulation offers improved stability in gastric acid compared to Penicillin G, allowing for effective systemic absorption. Dosage and duration of therapy should be guided by the severity and type of infection, as well as patient-specific factors such as age, renal function, and allergy history. Common adverse effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as hypersensitivity reactions ranging from mild rash to anaphylaxis.
Caution is advised in patients with a history of penicillin allergy or hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics. Kaypen 250 Tablet should be used under medical supervision, with adherence to prescribed dosage to prevent resistance development. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to penicillins and should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation.
