Geftinat 250mg Tablet contains Gefitinib, a selective epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Gefitinib acts by inhibiting the intracellular phosphorylation of tyrosine kinase associated with the EGFR, thereby blocking signal transduction pathways involved in the proliferation and survival of cancer cells.

It is indicated for patients with locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC harboring specific EGFR mutations. The standard dosage is one 250mg tablet taken orally once daily, with or without food, until disease progression or unacceptable toxicity occurs. Common adverse effects include diarrhea, rash, acneiform dermatitis, nausea, vomiting, and elevated liver enzymes, necessitating regular monitoring of liver function tests during therapy.
Patients should be advised to report any signs of interstitial lung disease, such as dyspnea, cough, or fever, as this is a rare but serious adverse event. Dose adjustments or discontinuation may be required based on toxicity severity. Gefitinib is metabolized primarily by the liver via CYP3A4; therefore, caution is advised when co-administered with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers.
