Epocept 4000IU/ml Injection contains Recombinant Human Erythropoietin Alfa at a concentration of 4000 IU/ml, a glycoprotein hormone that stimulates erythropoiesis. It is indicated for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (both dialysis and non-dialysis patients), chemotherapy-induced anemia in cancer patients, and anemia in patients with HIV receiving zidovudine therapy.

Epocept acts by binding to erythropoietin receptors on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, promoting their proliferation and differentiation, thereby increasing red blood cell production. This results in improved hemoglobin levels and reduced need for blood transfusions. The injection is administered subcutaneously or intravenously, with dosing individualized based on patient response and hemoglobin levels.
Monitoring of hemoglobin, hematocrit, blood pressure, and iron status is essential during therapy to optimize efficacy and minimize adverse effects. Common side effects include hypertension, headache, arthralgia, and injection site reactions. Caution is advised in patients with uncontrolled hypertension, and the risk of thromboembolic events should be considered. Epocept should be used under strict medical supervision with regular laboratory monitoring to ensure safe and effective treatment of anemia.
