Prazosin (5mg)
Active composition
Prazosin selectively antagonizes alpha-1 adrenergic receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral resistance.
Medical applications
Ypomin 5 Tablet ER contains Prazosin 5mg, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist primarily indicated for the treatment of hypertension and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). By selectively blocking alpha-1 receptors on vascular smooth muscle, Prazosin induces vasodilation, resulting in decreased peripheral vascular resistance and lowered blood pressure. This extended-release formulation ensures a gradual and sustained release of the active ingredient, promoting stable plasma concentrations and improving patient compliance through once-daily dosing. Ypomin 5 is effective in reducing both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, thereby decreasing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction. In BPH, Prazosin relaxes smooth muscle in the bladder neck and prostate, alleviating urinary obstruction and improving urine flow. The medication is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Prazosin or other quinazolines and should be used cautiously in individuals with a history of orthostatic hypotension or severe hepatic impairment. Common adverse effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and palpitations, often related to its vasodilatory action. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and renal function is advised during therapy. Ypomin 5 Tablet ER should be taken as prescribed, with dose adjustments based on clinical response and tolerability.
