By relaxing and widening blood vessels, it helps improve blood flow, lowers blood pressure, and reduces the strain on the heart. This action may also decrease the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. The medicine may be used alone or in combination with other treatments depending on the patient's condition. It can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day for consistent results. Since hypertension often does not cause noticeable symptoms, patients should continue taking the medication as directed by their healthcare provider even if they feel well. Some commonly reported side effects include headache, swelling of the ankles or feet, tiredness, nausea, stomach discomfort, and drowsiness.
