Olmesartan Medoxomil (20mg) + Hydrochlorothiazide (12.5mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Olmesartan Medoxomil blocks angiotensin II receptors, preventing vasoconstriction and lowering blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, leading to increased urine output and decreased blood volume.
Medical applications
Xirtam H Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg and Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that promotes the excretion of sodium and water by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, thereby reducing blood volume and lowering blood pressure. Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation and decreased aldosterone secretion, which further contributes to blood pressure reduction. The combination of these two agents provides a complementary mechanism of action, enhancing antihypertensive efficacy and improving blood pressure control in patients with essential hypertension. Xirtam H is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, either as initial therapy or in patients inadequately controlled on monotherapy. It is important to monitor renal function, electrolytes, and blood pressure regularly during treatment. Use of Xirtam H should be avoided in patients with hypersensitivity to any component, severe renal impairment, or anuria. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment or electrolyte imbalances. This medication should be used under medical supervision to optimize therapeutic outcomes and minimize adverse effects.
