Olmesartan Medoxomil (20mg) + Amlodipine (5mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Olmesartan Medoxomil blocks angiotensin II receptors, preventing vasoconstriction and lowering blood pressure.
Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced myocardial oxygen demand.
Medical applications
Xirtam AM Tablet contains a combination of Olmesartan Medoxomil 20 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg, formulated for the management of hypertension. Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Amlodipine is a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to peripheral arterial vasodilation and decreased systemic vascular resistance. The combination of these two agents provides complementary mechanisms for effective blood pressure control, improving cardiovascular outcomes and reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and other hypertensive complications. Xirtam AM is indicated for patients who require multiple antihypertensive agents to achieve target blood pressure levels. It is generally well tolerated; however, common adverse effects may include dizziness, headache, peripheral edema, and fatigue. Caution is advised in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment, and regular monitoring of blood pressure and renal function is recommended during therapy. This combination therapy should be used under medical supervision to optimize dosing and minimize potential drug interactions.
