Xenoscab Lotion contains Permethrin 5% w/v, a synthetic pyrethroid with potent scabicidal activity used for the treatment of scabies infestation caused by Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis. Permethrin acts by disrupting the sodium channel current in the nerve cell membrane of the mite, resulting in delayed repolarization, paralysis, and eventual death of the parasite. Xenoscab Lotion is indicated for topical application in patients diagnosed with scabies, including crusted scabies, and is suitable for use in adults and children over two months of age. Prior to application, the affected skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried. The lotion should be applied evenly over the entire body from the neck down, including under the nails and in skin folds, and left on for 8 to 14 hours before washing off. A single application is generally sufficient; however, a second treatment may be necessary after one week if symptoms persist. Permethrin is well tolerated, with adverse effects such as mild burning, itching, or erythema at the application site being rare and transient. Xenoscab Lotion should be used with caution in patients with known hypersensitivity to pyrethroids. Proper hygiene and simultaneous treatment of close contacts are recommended to prevent reinfestation.
