Head Lice Soap containing Permethrin 1% w/w is a topical pediculicide indicated for the treatment of head lice infestations (Pediculus humanus capitis). Permethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid, acts by disrupting the sodium channel function in the nerve cell membranes of lice, leading to delayed paralysis and death of the parasites. This formulation is designed for external use on the scalp and hair, providing an effective means to eliminate both live lice and their eggs (nits). The soap base facilitates thorough application and easy rinsing, ensuring adequate contact time for optimal efficacy. Head Lice Soap is generally well tolerated; however, mild local reactions such as itching, redness, or burning sensation may occur. It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to permethrin or any component of the product. For best results, the soap should be applied to dry hair, lathered thoroughly, left on for 10 minutes, and then rinsed off with water. A second treatment may be necessary 7 to 10 days after the initial application to eradicate newly hatched lice. Caution is advised to avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. This product is not intended for use in children under two years of age unless directed by a healthcare professional.
