Polymyxin B is a bactericidal antibiotic that acts by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane, leading to cell death.

This injection is primarily used in severe systemic infections such as septicemia, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and wound infections where other less toxic antibiotics are ineffective or contraindicated. X-Poly Injection should be administered parenterally under strict medical supervision, with dosage adjusted according to the severity of infection, renal function, and patient response.
Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment due to the risk of nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity, which are the most significant adverse effects associated with Polymyxin B. Monitoring of renal function and neurological status is recommended during therapy. Contraindications include known hypersensitivity to Polymyxin B or any component of the formulation. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be considered only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
