Chlorthalidone (12.5mg) + Telmisartan (40mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Medical applications
Weltelmi CT 40 Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic that promotes diuresis by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, leading to decreased plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance. The synergistic effect of these two agents provides effective and sustained blood pressure control in patients with essential hypertension. Weltelmi CT 40 is indicated for the management of hypertension, either as initial therapy or in patients inadequately controlled on monotherapy. Its use helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure. The combination is generally well tolerated; however, monitoring of electrolytes, renal function, and blood pressure is recommended during treatment to detect potential adverse effects such as hypotension, hyperkalemia, or electrolyte imbalance. Dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. This fixed-dose combination enhances patient compliance by simplifying the antihypertensive regimen.
