Weltelmi-AM 40 Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, which results in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. The synergistic action of these two agents effectively manages hypertension by targeting different pathways involved in blood pressure regulation. Weltelmi-AM 40 is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and may be used when monotherapy with either agent is insufficient to achieve desired blood pressure control. This combination helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure associated with uncontrolled hypertension. The medication is generally well tolerated; however, potential side effects include dizziness, peripheral edema, headache, and hypotension. It is contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment, pregnancy, and hypersensitivity to either component.
