Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, acts by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance. Atenolol, a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, decreases heart rate, cardiac output, and myocardial oxygen demand, contributing to blood pressure reduction. This fixed-dose combination is indicated for the management of hypertension, providing enhanced blood pressure control through complementary mechanisms. Wellamo AT is particularly beneficial for patients inadequately controlled on monotherapy or those requiring multiple agents for optimal cardiovascular risk reduction. The combination improves patient compliance by reducing pill burden. It is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, cardiogenic shock, second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, and severe hypotension.
