Telmisartan (40mg) + Cilnidipine (10mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Cilnidipine inhibits L-type and N-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
Medical applications
Wavtel LN 40 Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Cilnidipine 10mg and Telmisartan 40mg. Cilnidipine, a calcium channel blocker, selectively inhibits L-type and N-type calcium channels, leading to vasodilation of peripheral arteries and reduction in sympathetic nerve activity, thereby effectively lowering blood pressure. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), antagonizes the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, which contributes to blood pressure reduction and cardiovascular protection. The synergistic action of these two agents provides enhanced antihypertensive efficacy, improving blood pressure control in patients with essential hypertension. Wavtel LN 40 is indicated for the management of hypertension, either as monotherapy or in patients inadequately controlled by monotherapy. The combination is generally well tolerated, with a lower incidence of adverse effects such as peripheral edema compared to calcium channel blocker monotherapy. It is important to monitor renal function and serum potassium levels during treatment, especially in patients with renal impairment or those receiving concomitant medications affecting the renin-angiotensin system. Wavtel LN 40 should be used under medical supervision, with dosage adjustments based on therapeutic response and patient tolerance.
