Wavtel AM 40mg/5mg Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40mg and Amlodipine 5mg. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced aldosterone secretion, thereby lowering blood pressure. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in peripheral arterial vasodilation and decreased systemic vascular resistance. The synergistic action of these two agents provides effective blood pressure control in patients with essential hypertension, improving cardiovascular outcomes and reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and renal complications. Wavtel AM is indicated for patients who require combination therapy due to inadequate response to monotherapy or those with multiple cardiovascular risk factors. It is generally well tolerated; however, potential adverse effects include dizziness, peripheral edema, hypotension, and rarely, angioedema.
