Telmisartan (40mg) + Hydrochlorothiazide (12.5mg)
Active composition
+1 more active ingredient
Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide inhibits sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule, leading to increased urine output and decreased blood volume.
Medical applications
Wavtel 40H Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby reducing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to decreased blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, promotes diuresis by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, resulting in increased excretion of sodium and water, which further aids in lowering blood pressure. The synergistic action of these two agents provides effective management of hypertension, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction. Wavtel 40H is indicated for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy. It is essential to monitor electrolytes, renal function, and blood pressure regularly during therapy. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to either component, anuria, and severe renal or hepatic impairment. Use with caution in patients with gout, diabetes, or electrolyte imbalances. Common adverse effects may include dizziness, hypotension, hyperkalemia, and electrolyte disturbances. Wavtel 40H should be used under medical supervision with appropriate dose adjustments based on clinical response.
