Telmisartan (20mg)
Active composition
Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Medical applications
Wavtel 20 Tablet contains Telmisartan 20 mg, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist primarily used in the management of hypertension. By selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, Telmisartan promotes vasodilation, thereby reducing peripheral vascular resistance and lowering blood pressure. This mechanism helps to prevent complications associated with high blood pressure, such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and renal impairment. Wavtel 20 is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and may also be prescribed to reduce cardiovascular risk in patients with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or type 2 diabetes mellitus with target organ damage. The tablet is typically administered once daily, with or without food, to maintain consistent plasma levels and optimize therapeutic efficacy. Dose adjustments may be necessary in patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Common adverse effects include dizziness, headache, and fatigue, although it is generally well tolerated. Wavtel 20 should be used cautiously in patients with volume depletion or electrolyte imbalances. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and serum electrolytes is recommended during therapy. It is contraindicated in pregnancy and should not be co-administered with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment.
