Orlistat (120mg)
Active composition
Orlistat inhibits pancreatic lipase, preventing the breakdown and absorption of dietary fats.
Medical applications
Watlo 120 Capsule contains Orlistat 120 mg, a potent lipase inhibitor indicated for the management of obesity. Orlistat acts locally in the gastrointestinal tract by selectively inhibiting pancreatic and gastric lipases, enzymes responsible for the hydrolysis of dietary triglycerides into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides. By preventing the breakdown and subsequent absorption of approximately 30% of dietary fat, Watlo 120 facilitates weight reduction in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. This medication is prescribed for adults with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m² or greater, or those with a BMI of 27 kg/m² or greater who present with obesity-related comorbidities such as hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, or dyslipidemia. Watlo 120 is administered orally, typically three times daily with each main meal containing fat. Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as oily spotting, flatulence with discharge, fecal urgency, and increased defecation, which often diminish with continued use and adherence to a low-fat diet. Watlo 120 should be used cautiously in patients with malabsorption syndromes or cholestasis and is contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. Regular monitoring of liver function and fat-soluble vitamin levels is recommended during prolonged therapy.
