Osbitel CT Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Chlorthalidone 12.5 mg. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby reducing vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion, and sodium retention, leading to decreased blood pressure. Chlorthalidone is a thiazide-like diuretic that promotes diuresis by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the nephron, resulting in reduced plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance. The synergistic action of these two agents effectively manages hypertension, improving blood pressure control in patients inadequately responsive to monotherapy. Osbitel CT is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and may reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction associated with high blood pressure. It is generally well tolerated but should be used with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment, electrolyte imbalances, or hypersensitivity to sulfonamides. Monitoring of serum electrolytes, renal function, and blood pressure is recommended during therapy.
