Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that promotes diuresis by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, resulting in decreased plasma volume and peripheral vascular resistance. The combination of these two agents provides complementary mechanisms to effectively control elevated blood pressure, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure.

Olmecip H is typically prescribed when monotherapy with either component is insufficient to achieve target blood pressure goals. It is important to monitor renal function, electrolytes, and blood pressure regularly during therapy. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to sulfonamide-derived drugs, severe renal impairment, and pregnancy.
