Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, acts by inhibiting calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral resistance, thereby lowering blood pressure. Metoprolol Succinate, a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, decreases heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, contributing to blood pressure reduction and improved cardiac workload.

This combination is indicated for the management of hypertension and angina pectoris, providing synergistic effects to achieve better blood pressure control and reduce cardiovascular risk. Metcross AM 50/5 Tablet PR is formulated for prolonged release, ensuring steady plasma concentrations and once-daily dosing to enhance patient compliance. It is contraindicated in patients with severe bradycardia, heart block greater than first degree without a pacemaker, cardiogenic shock, and decompensated heart failure.
Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, diabetes mellitus, and respiratory conditions such as asthma. Common adverse effects may include dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, and peripheral edema. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate, and renal function is recommended during therapy to optimize treatment outcomes and minimize adverse effects.
