Metoprolol Succinate, a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker, decreases heart rate and myocardial contractility, thereby reducing cardiac output and oxygen demand. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), prevents vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion by antagonizing the AT1 receptor, contributing to vasodilation and sodium excretion. The combined action of these agents offers synergistic antihypertensive effects, improving efficacy and potentially minimizing adverse effects associated with higher doses of individual drugs.
Met XL Trio 25 is indicated for the management of essential hypertension, particularly in patients requiring multiple drug therapy to achieve target blood pressure levels. It should be used under medical supervision with regular monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to any component, severe hepatic or renal impairment, and pregnancy.
