Lumerax 60mg/360mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination antimalarial medication containing Artemether 60mg and Lumefantrine 360mg. It is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria, including cases resistant to chloroquine. Artemether, a fast-acting artemisinin derivative, rapidly reduces the parasite biomass by generating free radicals that damage parasite proteins. Lumefantrine, a longer-acting antimalarial, inhibits the polymerization of heme into hemozoin, thereby exerting a sustained antimalarial effect and preventing recrudescence. The combination ensures rapid parasite clearance and reduces the risk of resistance development. Lumerax is administered orally, typically as a six-dose regimen over three days, with doses given at 0, 8, 24, 36, 48, and 60 hours. It is recommended to be taken with fatty food to enhance absorption. Common adverse effects include headache, dizziness, nausea, and occasional gastrointestinal disturbances. Caution is advised in patients with known hypersensitivity to artemisinin derivatives or lumefantrine. Use during pregnancy should be considered only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk. Lumerax is contraindicated in patients with severe malaria requiring parenteral therapy and those with known QT prolongation or on concomitant medications that prolong the QT interval.
