Lariago 250mg Tablet contains Chloroquine 250mg, an antimalarial agent primarily used for the treatment and prophylaxis of malaria caused by Plasmodium species, including P. falciparum, P. vivax, P. ovale, and P. malariae. Chloroquine exerts its therapeutic effect by interfering with the parasite’s ability to digest hemoglobin, leading to toxic accumulation of heme within the parasite, ultimately resulting in its death.

Lariago is indicated for the treatment of acute malarial attacks and for the prevention of malaria in endemic areas. Additionally, it may be used off-label for certain autoimmune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus erythematosus due to its immunomodulatory properties. The recommended dosage and duration depend on the indication, patient age, weight, and severity of the infection.
Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, and pruritus; however, serious side effects such as retinopathy and cardiotoxicity may occur with prolonged use or overdose. Caution is advised in patients with pre-existing retinal or cardiac conditions. Lariago should be used under medical supervision, with regular monitoring for adverse effects.
It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to chloroquine or related compounds. Proper adherence to dosing schedules enhances therapeutic efficacy and minimizes resistance development.
