Losartan blocks the action of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced myocardial oxygen demand.
Medical applications
LTK-AM Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Losartan 50 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg, designed for the management of hypertension and related cardiovascular conditions. Losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), functions by selectively inhibiting the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby promoting vasodilation, reducing aldosterone secretion, and decreasing blood pressure. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in peripheral arterial vasodilation and reduced systemic vascular resistance. The synergistic action of these two agents provides effective blood pressure control, improving patient compliance by combining two mechanisms in a single tablet. LTK-AM is indicated for patients whose blood pressure is not adequately controlled by monotherapy with either Losartan or Amlodipine alone. It may also be used in patients at risk of cardiovascular events due to hypertension. The medication should be administered under medical supervision with periodic monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes. Common adverse effects include dizziness, headache, peripheral edema, and fatigue. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to either component, pregnancy, and severe hepatic impairment. LTK-AM Tablet offers a convenient and effective option for comprehensive hypertension management.
