Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced myocardial oxygen demand.
Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Medical applications
Lowtel-AM Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Telmisartan 40 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg, indicated for the management of essential hypertension. Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in arterial vasodilation and decreased peripheral vascular resistance. The synergistic action of these agents provides effective blood pressure control, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure. Lowtel-AM is particularly beneficial for patients who require dual therapy for hypertension or those inadequately controlled on monotherapy. It is administered orally once daily, with or without food. Common adverse effects may include dizziness, peripheral edema, headache, and fatigue. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment, and it is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes is recommended during therapy to ensure safety and efficacy.
