Lotensyl 20 Tablet contains Lercanidipine 20mg, a calcium channel blocker used primarily for the management of hypertension. Lercanidipine acts by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions through L-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and a consequent reduction in peripheral vascular resistance. This mechanism helps lower elevated blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular complications such as stroke, myocardial infarction, and heart failure.

Lotensyl 20 is indicated for adult patients requiring effective blood pressure control and is typically administered once daily due to its prolonged duration of action. The medication is well-tolerated, with common side effects including headache, dizziness, flushing, and peripheral edema. It is contraindicated in patients with severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock, or known hypersensitivity to lercanidipine or other dihydropyridine derivatives.
Caution is advised when used concomitantly with other antihypertensive agents or drugs affecting cytochrome P450 3A4 metabolism. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and renal function is recommended during therapy. Lotensyl 20 should be used under medical supervision to ensure optimal dosing and to minimize potential adverse effects.
