Lotak-A Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Losartan 50 mg and Amlodipine 5 mg, designed for the management of hypertension and related cardiovascular conditions. Losartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, works by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby causing vasodilation, reducing aldosterone secretion, and decreasing sodium and water retention, which collectively lower blood pressure. Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker, inhibits calcium influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to arterial vasodilation and reduced peripheral vascular resistance. The synergistic effect of these two agents provides effective blood pressure control, reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and other cardiovascular events. Lotak-A is indicated for patients who require combination therapy when monotherapy with either agent is insufficient or when a single-pill combination improves adherence. It is generally well tolerated, with common side effects including dizziness, headache, peripheral edema, and fatigue. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment, renal dysfunction, or a history of angioedema.
