Losartas-HT Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Losartan 50 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg. Losartan, an angiotensin II receptor antagonist, works by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, leading to vasodilation and reduced secretion of aldosterone, thereby lowering blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, promotes the excretion of sodium and water by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, contributing to decreased blood volume and reduced blood pressure. This combination is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, particularly in patients who require dual therapy for adequate blood pressure control. The synergistic action of Losartan and Hydrochlorothiazide helps in achieving better antihypertensive efficacy compared to monotherapy, reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction. Losartas-HT should be used with caution in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function, electrolyte imbalances, or gout. Monitoring of serum electrolytes, renal function, and blood pressure is recommended during therapy. Contraindications include hypersensitivity to any component and pregnancy.
