Losanorm 25-H Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Losartan 25 mg and Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist that selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, thereby inhibiting vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, which results in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that promotes diuresis by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubules of the kidneys, leading to increased excretion of sodium and water, which helps decrease blood volume and lower blood pressure. The combination of these two agents provides complementary mechanisms to achieve effective control of hypertension. Losanorm 25-H is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, particularly in patients who require more than one antihypertensive agent to achieve adequate blood pressure control. It may also be used in patients who have not responded sufficiently to monotherapy with either Losartan or Hydrochlorothiazide. The medication should be used under medical supervision, with monitoring of blood pressure, electrolytes, and renal function due to the potential for electrolyte imbalance and renal impairment. Common side effects include dizziness, hypotension, and electrolyte disturbances.
