Labetol Tablet contains Labetalol 100mg, a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker with additional alpha-1 adrenergic blocking activity, used primarily in the management of hypertension. By antagonizing beta-1 and beta-2 receptors, Labetalol reduces heart rate and myocardial contractility, thereby decreasing cardiac output. The alpha-1 blockade induces vasodilation, which contributes to lowering peripheral vascular resistance.

This dual mechanism makes Labetalol effective in controlling blood pressure without causing reflex tachycardia commonly seen with selective beta-blockers. It is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, hypertensive emergencies, and hypertension associated with pregnancy (preeclampsia). Labetolol is administered orally, with dosage individualized based on patient response and clinical condition.
Common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, nausea, and hypotension; caution is advised in patients with asthma, bradycardia, or heart block due to potential exacerbation of these conditions. Regular monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate is recommended during therapy.
