Inderal LA 40 Tablet SR contains Propranolol 40 mg, a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker used primarily in the management of cardiovascular conditions. Propranolol exerts its therapeutic effects by competitively blocking beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, thereby reducing heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, which leads to decreased oxygen demand by the heart. Inderal LA 40 is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias, and for the prevention of myocardial infarction. Additionally, it is used in the management of essential tremor, migraine prophylaxis, and certain types of anxiety disorders. The sustained-release formulation allows for once-daily dosing, enhancing patient compliance by maintaining steady plasma drug concentrations over an extended period. Inderal LA should be used with caution in patients with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes mellitus, and peripheral vascular disease due to its non-selective beta-blocking properties.
