Inderal 40 Tablet contains Propranolol 40mg, a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker used primarily in the management of cardiovascular conditions. Propranolol exerts its therapeutic effects by competitively blocking beta-1 and beta-2 adrenergic receptors, leading to a decrease in heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, thereby reducing blood pressure and myocardial oxygen demand. Inderal 40 is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, cardiac arrhythmias, and for the prevention of myocardial infarction. Additionally, it is utilized in the management of essential tremor, migraine prophylaxis, and certain types of anxiety disorders. The drug is absorbed well orally, with peak plasma concentrations occurring within 1 to 4 hours. It undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism in the liver, and its elimination half-life ranges from 3 to 6 hours. Dosage should be individualized based on the patient’s clinical response and condition severity, with careful titration to minimize adverse effects. Common side effects include fatigue, dizziness, bradycardia, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Inderal 40 should be used with caution in patients with asthma, diabetes, or peripheral vascular disease. Abrupt discontinuation is not recommended due to the risk of rebound hypertension or angina.
