Imatinib mesylate (100mg)
Active composition
Medical applications
Imatib 100 Tablet contains Imatinib mesylate 100 mg, a selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor used primarily in the treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs). Imatinib mesylate functions by inhibiting the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase enzyme, which is produced by the Philadelphia chromosome abnormality in CML, thereby blocking the proliferation of malignant cells. It is also effective against other tyrosine kinases such as c-KIT and PDGF receptors, making it beneficial in treating GISTs. Imatib 100 is indicated for newly diagnosed and relapsed or refractory Philadelphia chromosome-positive CML in chronic, accelerated, or blast phases, as well as for unresectable and/or metastatic malignant GISTs. The recommended dosage varies depending on the condition being treated and patient response, and therapy should be initiated and monitored by a healthcare professional experienced in oncology. Common adverse effects include edema, nausea, muscle cramps, rash, and fatigue, while more serious but less frequent effects can involve myelosuppression, hepatotoxicity, and cardiotoxicity. Regular monitoring of blood counts, liver function, and cardiac status is advised during treatment. Imatib 100 should be used with caution in patients with hepatic impairment and is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to imatinib or its excipients.
