Hivus-LR 50mg/200mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication containing Ritonavir 50mg and Lopinavir 200mg, indicated for the treatment of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection. Ritonavir acts as a pharmacokinetic enhancer by inhibiting cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4), thereby increasing plasma concentrations of Lopinavir, a protease inhibitor that prevents viral replication by inhibiting the HIV-1 protease enzyme.

This combination improves antiretroviral efficacy and helps in achieving sustained viral suppression. Hivus-LR is typically prescribed as part of combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) for treatment-naïve or treatment-experienced patients with HIV-1 infection. The tablet should be administered orally, preferably with food to enhance absorption. Dosage and duration of therapy depend on the patient’s clinical status and response to treatment.
Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal discomfort, as well as elevated liver enzymes and lipid abnormalities. Regular monitoring of liver function tests and lipid profiles is recommended during therapy. Caution is advised in patients with hepatic impairment and potential drug interactions due to Ritonavir’s CYP3A4 inhibition.
