Mupirocin (2% w/w)
Active composition
Mupirocin inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, preventing bacterial growth.
Medical applications
Healiva Ointment contains Mupirocin 2% w/w, a topical antibacterial agent effective against a variety of gram-positive bacteria, including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). It is primarily indicated for the treatment of superficial skin infections such as impetigo, folliculitis, furunculosis, and infected eczema. Mupirocin acts by inhibiting bacterial isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase, thereby preventing protein synthesis and bacterial replication. Healiva Ointment should be applied in a thin layer to the affected area two to three times daily, with the duration of therapy typically ranging from 5 to 10 days depending on the severity of the infection and clinical response. It is important to cleanse and dry the affected area before application. The ointment is generally well tolerated; however, local adverse effects such as burning, stinging, or itching may occur. Systemic absorption is minimal, reducing the risk of systemic side effects. Healiva Ointment is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to mupirocin or any of its excipients. Caution is advised when used on large areas or broken skin. As with all antibiotics, adherence to the prescribed course is essential to prevent the development of resistance.
Natural crotonic acid derivative {Medium-chain fatty acids}
Important precautions
Based on clinical trials and patient reports.
Overall Tolerance
Common Side Effects
Healiva Ointment is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy. Animal studies have shown low or no adverse effects to the developing baby; however, there are limited human studies.
