It functions by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P450-dependent 14α-sterol demethylase, an essential enzyme in ergosterol biosynthesis, leading to disruption of fungal cell membrane integrity and growth inhibition.

Gufivor-O is primarily prescribed for invasive aspergillosis, candidemia in non-neutropenic patients, esophageal candidiasis, and infections caused by Scedosporium and Fusarium species. The tablet formulation allows for convenient oral administration with good bioavailability. Dosage should be individualized based on the severity of infection, patient weight, and hepatic function, with careful monitoring for potential adverse effects such as visual disturbances, hepatotoxicity, and skin reactions.
