Cilnidipine inhibits L-type and N-type calcium channels in vascular smooth muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
Telmisartan selectively blocks angiotensin II receptors, leading to vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Medical applications
Eritel LN 20mg/80mg Tablet is a combination antihypertensive medication containing Cilnidipine 20mg and Telmisartan 80mg. Cilnidipine is a calcium channel blocker that selectively inhibits L-type and N-type calcium channels, leading to vasodilation of peripheral arteries and reduced sympathetic nerve activity, thereby lowering blood pressure. Telmisartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively inhibits the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, resulting in vasodilation, decreased aldosterone secretion, and reduction of sodium and water retention. The synergistic action of these two agents provides effective and sustained blood pressure control in patients with essential hypertension. Eritel LN is indicated for the management of hypertension, either as initial therapy or in patients inadequately controlled with monotherapy. The combination improves compliance by reducing pill burden and may offer renal and cardiovascular protective benefits. It is generally well tolerated; common adverse effects include dizziness, headache, and peripheral edema. Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment and contraindicated during pregnancy. Regular monitoring of blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes is recommended during therapy to ensure safety and efficacy.
