Ofloxacin (0.3% w/v)
Active composition
Ofloxacin inhibits DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, disrupting bacterial DNA replication and transcription.
Medical applications
Zynoff Eye/Ear Drop contains Ofloxacin 0.3% w/v, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the eye and ear, including conjunctivitis, keratitis, blepharitis, and otitis externa. Ofloxacin exerts its antibacterial action by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination, thereby leading to bacterial cell death. Zynoff Eye/Ear Drop is formulated to provide targeted antimicrobial therapy with minimal systemic absorption, reducing the risk of systemic side effects. The solution is sterile, isotonic, and buffered to ensure ocular and otic comfort upon administration. It is recommended to instill one or two drops into the affected eye or ear every 2 to 4 hours initially, with dosage frequency gradually reduced as symptoms improve, typically over a 7 to 10-day course. Patients should avoid contamination of the dropper tip and discontinue use if hypersensitivity or worsening of symptoms occurs. Zynoff Eye/Ear Drop is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to ofloxacin or other quinolones. Caution is advised in pregnant or lactating women and pediatric patients.
