Active composition
Cefuroxime binds to penicillin-binding proteins, inhibiting peptidoglycan synthesis and compromising bacterial cell wall integrity.
Medical applications
Zyfuro 500 Tablet contains Cefuroxime 500 mg, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic effective against a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefuroxime exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. Zyfuro 500 is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, and pharyngitis, as well as urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and Lyme disease.
It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to first-generation cephalosporins. The tablet is administered orally, with absorption enhanced by food intake, ensuring optimal bioavailability. Dosage and duration of therapy should be tailored based on the severity of infection, patient age, renal function, and susceptibility of the causative organism.
Common adverse effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort, while hypersensitivity reactions may occur in penicillin-allergic patients. Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment, and dose adjustment may be necessary. Zyfuro 500 should be used under medical supervision to prevent resistance development and ensure therapeutic efficacy.
It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or beta-lactam antibiotics.
